we drove back to NOLA yesterday after a short stop in Wetumpka to see my mom. we got home at 12:30 am to discover we had no power. awesome. every other neighborhood has power. one of the cats shit in their cage on the way home, so we had to smell that for a few hours, even w/ the windows down.

zotz has power and internet, so we're kicking it here until we go to finn mccool's to hang out and drink, b/c we have no reason not to.

work starts again tomorrow. yay, toys. i was actually hoping that we'd have a few days off to just kick it, but no. i need the money anyway.

i'm going to call bike boy in the next few days. pretty excited.

i'm pretty bad at chronicling, obviously.

they made it mandatory evacuation yesterday, so james and i left. it took us 15 f'ing hours to get to birmingham. contra flow is the stupidest thing i've ever seen.the cats were fine until about midnight, and then they decided to fight. awesome. we're watching the news to figure out when we can go back and such.

currently, there is overtopping at the industrial canal, which means the lower ninth is flooding a little, and water is coming in from the lake.

for posterity, i'm going to document my experiences of the next few days. i doubt they'll amount to anything, but why not?

i had been planning for a few weeks on going on a trip this weekend. for various direct and indirect hurricane reasons, i didn't go. my roommate and i are currently planning on staying. it doesn't look like gustav is going to hit the city, and gas is way too expensive to leave if it's not necessary. today i went out and bought supplies. i've got enough food and drink for about five days, i guess. i'm always really bad at estimating this stuff.

currently, gustav hasn't hit cuba yet. after ih does, it'll be in the gulf and we'll have a real idea of what might happen. the plan is to go to birmingham if it starts to look bad. traffic is so bad leaving the city that we'd wait until sunday when they start contraflow anyway.

at whole foods i saw a green schwinn caliente locked up. i own a pink scwinn caliente, and she's the love of my life. since i'm such a nerd, i wrote a note to the "caliente verde" owner and told him that my bike wanted to be his bike's best friend. he wrote back. "fate? destiny? let's get our bikes together for a ride after the storm goes away." and left his phone number. by the owner's name i'm assuming it's a guy. i'm so excited! caliente nerds unite!

that's all i got for now. hopefully i will have nothing of note to report over the next few days.

i got the first session of my sleeve done last night. it's still wrapped in plastic, but i'll take pictures as soon as it isn't.

when i wiped out on my bike a few weeks ago, i received quite a few cuts in my heel. recently i've realized that one of them is kind of in the shape of a lightning bolt. i've decided i have "The Heel Who Lived," and i think i'll rename the intersection at broadway and st. charles "Voldemort." but seriously, i'm going to have some awesome scars.

So my favorite band, The RX Bandits, is playing March 12 at Tipitinas with THE ENGLISH BEAT. Awesome, eh?


March 12 is the day that after waiting a month to get a tattoo appointment with Randy from Eye Candy, he calls and schedules an appointment for two months in the future. So I've been waiting a quarter or a year for this appointment, and now I don't really want to go. F'!

Please stop dating people so I don't have to deal w/ people either 1) breaking up or 2) getting married. Being single isn't that bad, and we can have snuggle parties.

my manager at World's Healthiest Pizza called last night and asked me to meet her for coffee this morning. i figured, sure, what's she going to do, fire me when i'm not on the clock? actually, yes. she did. fuck jobs. vegan baking it is.

I need a name for my vegan baking company. for now, i'm just going to be selling to z'otz, but maybe other places soon. i want it to be funny and witty. i was thinking "no whey! vegan baking?" but there's usually not whey in cookies and cinnamon rolls. any suggestions?

Unfortunately, last time the Extraordinaires played in New Orleans, at Eldon's house, there weren't many people there. Too bad, b/c the Extraordinaires are, pardon the uncreativeness, extraordinary! We can all form a human chain and sing along to their songs (b/c they pass out the lyrics in book form at the shows) and ignore/piss off the hipsters at the show.

i am so anxious to move into my new house. stupid landlord. my legs feel like jelly from biking all over today.
